RESULTS - Waging War on Cancer

The Relay For Life was fun as always. Overall, many teams came together and raised a bunch of money, had a great time honoring those still fighting the fight and remembering those who had lost their battles.

OK, so on to the event that I chose to raise funds for the Relay For Life....the Waging War on Cancer paintball game. Much fun was had and some money was raised...yes...some money...

Now, for the accountable version...

This event was one that "could have" been and "should have" been bigger, better and badder (the good "bad" not the bad "bad") than it was. The result is that our efforts brought in a measly $510 dollars with only $220 coming from the Waging War on Cancer game. Not much of a war, not even really a battle and certainly not a "changing the world" moment.

There was, however an abundance of pucker. Not the kind that's put in a mixed drink but a feeling deep down in my gut...as if constipated cat had been placed there and was pacing about in dreadful anticipation of the impending evacuation. Imagine having a birthday party and inviting all of your friends only to have none show up. I was that guy. Run away...not an option. Stick my head in the sand like some sort of large flightless bird...lacked the ability. Nope, I had to be there and drink it all in for these were my results.

So, after purchasing enough food and drink for 40 players I sat and watched...and waited...and...agonized as I witnessed 10 paying players arrive...

Well we, of course, made the best of it and had a fantastic time ballin' on a great field...

Here is what I learned:
  • Start planning much earlier next time
  • Use existing events to advertise my event (ergo...go to the other paintball games going on and pass out flyers and get vocal about the upcoming game
  • Use my contacts in the industry. A couple of my buddies in the industry came to me and said: "dude, why didn't you tell about this sooner? Next year let us do this with you."
